Whistler World Ski & Snowboard Festival

Known to locals as WSSF, the World Ski & Snowboard Festival combines spring energy with Whistler’s unique mountain culture for a week of non-stop events and action on and off the slopes. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the festival with ski and snowboard competitions, music, art, photography, filmmaking and exciting nightlife, plus some of the best skiing and après sessions of the season. Take our word for it, you’ll need more than the weekend to appreciate this vibe.

8 – 10 PM 72-Hour Filmmaker Showdown Presented by YETI
Open to all aspiring filmmakers, teams have 72 hours to shoot, edit and produce a 3 – 5 minute short film taken within a 100 kilometres of Whistler Village. Judges are looking for originality, imagination and great storytelling when choosing just one winner for the $5,000 grand prize.

Tuesday, April 8

Recognized as one of the premier action sports photography events globally, the Showdown is a breathtaking tribute to the art of action sports photography, uniting some of the world’s most talented photographers to share their favourite images that capture the essence of sport, culture, and the human spirit.

Storytelling in motion offers lessons from action sports films to branded content. Darren Rayner shares how he blends the authenticity of action sports storytelling with the strategy of brand-focused filmmaking.

A premier street-style ski and snowboard competition and the final stop of its cross-Canada tour, The Grind transforms the base of Whistler Blackcomb into a showcase of elite talent, featuring world-class athletes, high-energy competition and a $50,000 prize pool distributed equally across genders and disciplines.

Friday, April 11

8 AM – 4 PM Saudan Couloir Race Extreme Presented by Helly Hansen
Billed as the steepest ski and snowboard race in the world, the event takes skiers down a double-black run on Blackcomb Mountain that’s one of the “9 Most Terrifying Ski Slopes in the World.” The race and run are named after Swiss extreme skier Sylvain Saudan, nicknamed “Skier of the Impossible.” A festival highlight since 1987, it brings out legends of ski racing, big mountain pros, and a healthy dose of amateur skiers who aren’t afraid to charge down the 2,500 thigh-burning vertical feet.

Prizes for Best Costume, Best Trick, Best Wipe-Out, and more, are up for grabs at this annual fan-favourite event.
